The Story

The Galapagos shouldn't exist. A cluster of volcanic islands 1,000km from the nearest coast, cut off from the world long enough for life to take its own path. Below the surface, that isolation created something found nowhere else: hammerhead sharks schooling in the hundreds, whale sharks drifting through open water, marine iguanas feeding on underwater reefs, sea lions that treat divers as playmates.

Join Brooke Pyke and cinematographer Nush Freedman on a 19-dive liveaboard expedition aboard the Galápagos Sky. Sailing north from San Cristóbal to the remote sites of Wolf and Darwin - three full days at two of the most sought-after dive sites on the planet - then south through Fernandina, Isabela, and Cousins Rock. Above water, the Galapagos delivers just as much: blue-footed boobies, ancient giant tortoises, landscapes that look like the beginning of the world.

On board, Brooke and Nush lead daily underwater photography and video masterclasses, plus marine biology presentations on the species you're encountering. You'll leave with a personalised gallery of professional images and footage from the trip.

This is advanced diving in one of the most biodiverse marine environments on Earth, guided by two of Australia's most respected ocean storytellers. Limited to 14 guests.

The Highlights

  • 7 nights aboard the Galapagos Sky liveaboard
  • All-inclusive gourmet meals and beverages
  • 19 dives across Wolf, Darwin, Fernandina, Isabela, and Cousins Rock
  • Hikes and land explorations on remote islands
  • Guided by underwater photographer Brooke Pyke and cinematographer Nush Freedman
This is more than a trip.

The Galapagos doesn't need a hard sell. But this trip isn't just the Galapagos. This one puts you in the water with two people who have spent their careers learning to see beneath the surface - and then teaches you how to do the same. You'll dive Wolf and Darwin. You'll encounter species that exist nowhere else on Earth. And you'll come home with the images and the understanding to prove it.

What Fuels Brooke

"Through sharing my imagery, I aspire to contribute to the protection of our planet's last remaining wild places. Join me on this journey to celebrate and safeguard our oceans".

Brooke never planned any of this. She was a graphic design student who was scared of the ocean. One snorkelling trip in Southeast Asia rewired everything. She dropped her studies, became a dive instructor, picked up a camera, and built a career around showing people the beauty hiding just below the surface. That journey, from fear to obsession, is exactly what she brings to every guest: the belief that anyone can fall in love with the ocean if someone shows them how.

Day By Day

Your Itinerary

Day

1

Welcome to San Cristóbal

Your expedition starts before you even board the boat. Arrive in San Cristóbal and meet Brooke Pyke and the rest of the group for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant near the harbour. Explore the town, spot the wildlife already living along the shoreline, and let the Galápagos work its magic before the real adventure begins tomorrow.

Day

2

Aboard the Galápagos Sky

The crew meets you at your hotel and escorts you down to the Galápagos Sky. Your gear is stowed, cabins are assigned, and you'll receive a full briefing on onboard facilities, National Park regulations, and a personal introduction with the dive masters. Once the safety briefing is complete, the ship sets sail for Isla Lobos - your first dive is a checkout dive to get your bearings in these waters.

Day

3

Cousins Rock & North Seymour

Morning is spent ashore at North Seymour - home to blue-footed boobies mid-courtship display and magnificent frigatebirds puffing out their scarlet throat pouches. Land iguanas bask in the sun. Sea lions play at your feet.

In the afternoon, the ship moves to Cousins Rock for two dives. A stunning wall, black corals, frogfish, seahorses, scorpionfish and octopuses in the cracks. Schools of barracuda overhead. Sea lions dropping in on your safety stop like they own the place.

Day

4-6

Wolf & Darwin Islands

These are two of the best dive sites on the planet. Full stop.

At Wolf Island, expect four dives a day including a night dive - schooling hammerheads, Galápagos sharks, eagle rays, dolphins, and if you're lucky a whale shark. Night dives reveal red-lipped batfish and a completely different ocean.

Darwin - specifically The Pillars - delivers hammerheads in numbers that are hard to describe. Yellowfin tuna, bigeye jacks, mobula rays and the occasional tiger shark. From June to November, whale sharks move through regularly.

Neither island has a shore - you're here purely for what's beneath the surface.

Day

7

Fernandina & Isabela

Cape Douglas on Fernandina is built for marine iguana encounters - volcanic formations underwater, rich ecosystems, and the strange beauty of watching iguanas move through the water around you.

Punta Vicente Roca on Isabela is a deep vertical wall of soft corals, sponges and endemic black corals. Spanish lobster, nudibranchs, bullhead sharks and red-lipped batfish. Mola Mola are the headline act. After the dive, a cruise along the shoreline in the ship's tender delivers penguins, flightless cormorants and blue-footed boobies at close range.

Day

8

Santa Cruz & the Giant Tortoises

One more dive at Pinzón Island - sharks, mantas, eagle rays, moray eels, playful sea lions and a vivid cast of tropical fish - before heading ashore to the Highlands of Santa Cruz to meet the Giant Tortoises. Some free time in town before heading back to the ship for the final evening.

9

Farewell to Paradise

The Galápagos Sky returns to San Cristóbal for a final morning. Disembarkation is at 8:30 AM - but the day isn't over yet. Visit the Interpretation Center for a last dose of the islands' extraordinary story, then head to UMAMI for a relaxed farewell meal before transfers to the airport.

Eight days in the most biodiverse archipelago on earth, diving alongside species found nowhere else in the world, guided by one of wildlife photography's most celebrated storytellers. This is the kind of expedition that changes the way you see the natural world.

Guest Review

Galapagos

"I booked this trip not really knowing what to expect. I left completely changed. Swimming alongside whale sharks is one thing. Doing it with someone who genuinely loves the ocean as much as Brooke does, and who wants to share that with you - that's something else entirely."

What dive certification do I need?

Advanced Open Water (30m minimum) is required for this trip. Many dive sites around Darwin and Wolf Islands extend below 18m, and conditions frequently involve strong to very strong currents. Water temperatures can drop to around 15°C. If you're unsure whether your certification or experience level is the right fit, get in touch before booking.

Do I need to wear a wetsuit?

Yes. Water temperatures around the Galapagos range from 15 to 25°C depending on conditions and location. A 7mm wetsuit with hood, gloves and warm dive booties is recommended to keep you comfortable across multiple dives per day.

What is the average water visibility?

Visibility varies with swell, wind and tides and typically ranges from 5 to 30 metres. The Galapagos is known for nutrient-rich, dynamic water - the same conditions that make the marine life so extraordinary can also reduce visibility on some dives.

What camera should I bring?

Bring whatever suits your budget and goals. A GoPro is a solid entry point - great for wide-angle reef shots and easy video. For those wanting more control, a compact or full-frame camera with manual settings, a wide-angle or fisheye lens and an underwater housing will produce the strongest results. Brooke and Nush will provide guidance throughout the trip regardless of what you're shooting with.

I'm a beginner photographer. Can I still join?

Yes. The masterclasses are designed to work across all experience levels. If you've never dived with a camera before, it's worth getting some practice in before the trip so you're not figuring out your gear while surrounded by hammerheads. Familiarity with your setup before you arrive will make a big difference to what you come home with.

What fitness level is required?

Moderate. You'll be diving up to four times a day across multiple days, often in strong currents. Being comfortable and confident in open ocean conditions is essential - this isn't a resort dive situation. If you have any concerns about your fitness or water ability, reach out before booking and we'll give you an honest answer.

Do I need to tip?

Tipping is not mandatory but it's a meaningful part of the boat crew's income. The standard recommendation is 10% of the trip price, paid in USD at the end of the trip. The crew work hard to make the experience what it is - it's a good way to acknowledge that.

Is there a single supplement for solo travellers?

Yes. Solo travellers can request a private cabin for an additional fee. We may also be able to pair solo travellers in shared cabins on a first-come-first-served basis. Contact us for details and availability.

Can I speak to someone about this trip or get help with flights?

Yes. Our team can help with flight routing into Quito or Guayaquil and onward to the Galapagos. Call, text or WhatsApp us at +61 402 552 918. You'll speak directly with an Airguides team member who knows this trip inside out. We're here for any questions, big or small, from planning your adventure to arriving back home.

A truly unique experience that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

This experience is not for the faint of heart or someone who is looking for Instagram moments for clout. You are being given a unique opportunity to go to a place that will only be accessible to a handful of mere mortals.

To be in the presence of a unique visionary like Martin Gregus is truly a once in a lifetime.

Anne Prather, Fireweeds 2025

The Airguides trip to Tonga to swim with humpback whales was the experience of a lifetime. I have traveled all over the world, and nothing compares to being in the wild, rustic, deep blue waters of the South Pacific while interacting with whales and their calves. A wonderful and caring team made our adventures stress free.
