The Story

Ever wondered what it feels like to witness a turtle hatchling take its first steps? Join us for an extraordinary trip to Lady Elliot Island, guided by marine biologist and Master Reef Guide, Jacinta Shackleton. Situated in a designated 'Green Zone,' Lady Elliot Island is an eco-sanctuary, renowned for its breathtaking coral reefs and abundant marine life.

Join daily snorkel expeditions led by Jacinta herself as you swim alongside majestic manta rays and, of course, the island’s native turtles. Your accommodation is no less special: unwind at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort, a world-leading, award-winning ecologically sustainable tourism operator dedicated to protecting and enhancing Lady Elliot Island and the wider Great Barrier Reef. As the sun rises, prepare for a spectacle unlike any other. Witness the magical moment when baby turtles, freshly hatched, make their first pilgrimage from nest to ocean. Capture it all with photography masterclasses conducted by Jacinta, who will help you immortalise these magical moments.

But that's not all. Your trip also includes all meals, private boat tours, and a keepsake gallery of professionally captured photographs to forever remind you of your unforgettable Lady Elliot Island experience.

Jacinta Shackleton

Why Travel With Jacinta?

Jacinta Shackleton isn't just any guide; she's a marine biologist, a Master Reef Guide, and a passionate conservationist. A thirst for adventure runs in Jacinta's blood. A relative of esteemed Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, Jacinta spends her days exploring the mesmerising world beneath the waves and teaching people how they can help protect it.

Jacinta lives and breathes the Great Barrier Reef and i’s dedicated to educating people about the Reef and its inhabitants. Based on Lady Elliot Island, the southern-most island in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, this beautiful coral cay is about the size of 50 football fields and a biodiversity hotspot home to over 1,200 marine species, including whales, manta rays, turtles, dolphins and corals. The island also has the second highest diversity of breeding seabirds of any island on the Great Barrier Reef. For Jacinta, education is the key to helping people understand they too can make a real difference for the Reef.

“Thanking the stars I found Airguides and Jono's trip. We were totally taken care of! Paul answered all our questions and took care of the details so all we had to do was get there. Jono Allen is an amazing, talented photographer who created a special group experience. The WHALES were mind blowing. What a gift to be in Tonga staring into the eye of a baby whale! This trip was a lifelong dream come true. I highly recommend it so much we’ve already signed up again for next year!"

"The Airguides trip to Tonga to swim with humpback whales was the experience of a lifetime. I have traveled all over the world, and nothing compares to being in the wild, rustic, deep blue waters of the South Pacific while interacting with whales and their calves. A wonderful and caring team made our adventures stress free. Absolutely amazing, so much so, that I am doing it again this year! Thanks a million Paul, Jono, Al, Alistair, Christian and Polly!"
