Day 1: Launceston to Bridport

Welcome to northern Tasmania! Pick up your X-TRAIL and drive to Bridport, your first stop on the journey. You will stay at Platypus Park Country Retreat, a boutique B&B with very special guests — you might spot a platypus in the creek! The Bridport Walking Track is a great way to discover the area's breathtaking showcase of natural foreshore, beaches, wildflowers, forest and river landscape.

- Included

Pick up your Nissan X-TRAIL

Pick up your rental car at Launceston Airport and ride high in this world class family size SUV. Designed to get you from here to there, and everywhere in between, the Nissan X-TRAIL is made for adventure. The perfect car for your Heartlands road trip, with room for 2 adults and up to 3 children. We are proud to partner with Drive Car Hire, a 100% Tasmanian-owned family business. Known for their second to none level of service, their goal is to make renting a car an easy, hassle-free experience.

- Overnight

Platypus Park Country Retreat - Lavender Cottage

Platypus Park Country Retreat is a boutique B&B set on a gorgeous 40 acre property in Bridport. The Lavender Cottage is a one bedroom spa apartment, the perfect base after a day of exploring north east Tasmania. Have a leisurely walk around the garden, or the greater rural property, and relax on the sunny verandah. Sofie, the kelpie cross dog, will take you for a guided walk to the river or farm dams to try to spot a platypus. This comfortable one bedroom spa apartment has everything you need for a few days away, including a two person spa bath. The kitchen is fully equiped ready for you to prepare your meals, which will allow you more time to unwind and relax in your cosy home. Daily breakfast is included.

- Optional

Bridport Walking Track

Bridport's walking track is a breathtaking showcase of natural foreshore, beaches, wildflowers, forest and river landscape. And, as you can tell by Luke's image, a great place for photography. Walk, run, ride and ramble along the 11-kilometre circuit which takes you through ancient forests, wildflower reserves, native grasslands, tidal estuarine and river environments. The Bridport Walking Track is an unforgettable place of natural beauty to experience.

Bridestowe Lavender Estate (Dec to Feb)

Bridestowe Lavender Estate runs over 260 acres and is the world’s largest privately-owned lavender farm. With an estimated 650,000 plants, the lavender rows stretch for about 200 kilometres in total. Get lost in the purple flowers, clean air and open spaces of the farm. The purple scenery is absolutely mesmerising and a great place for photos. Bridestowe grows true French lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, the only lavender variety suitable for use in perfume and cooking. As a result, Bridestowe Lavender Estate is one of the few farms that is truly paddock to plate. We recommend the lavender ice cream!

The kitchen is fully equipped ready for you to prepare your meals, which will allow you more time to unwind and relax in your cosy home. Daily breakfast is included.

- Optional

Drive to Little Blue Lake

If you feel like exploring today we recommend to visit the Little Blue Lake, a natural phenomenon resulting from the pioneering mining days of South Mount Cameron and the surrounding areas of the Far North East of Tasmania. Originally a mine hole, the lake reflects a vivid aqua blue from the minerals in its base. The locals love it for waterskiing, swimming is however not recommended due to the high mineral content in the water. Combine this drive with a visit to Waterhouse Conservation Area, home to three major permanent deep-water lagoons and a well-kept secret near Bridport. Don't forget your camera!

DAY 3

Day 3: Bridport to Tamar Valley

Drive to the Tamar Valley, one of Tasmania's prettiest regions boasting art, bush walks, an iconic wine route and a thriving local food scene. Escape into the vines with an immersive accommodation experience — you will be glamping in style in a bespoke geodesic dome. Enjoy a wine in your outdoor bathtub and discover the iconic Tamar Valley Wine Route. We have designed an itinerary for you to sample the region's best wines and visit the most beautiful vineyards.

Tamar Valley Wine Route - Itinerary

The Tamar Valley Wine Route was named in the “Top 10 Wine Routes of the World” by Essential Travel Magazine and we highly recommend you to savour it. The award winning and internationally recognised wines and cellar doors are waiting for you. If you’re not a wine or beer drinker, organic cider is also a popular product of the Tamar Valley. The Wine Route follows about 170 kilometres (105 miles) and visits more than thirty cellar doors – wineries both large and small. In your travel guide, we will provide you with recommendations for a 'taster tour'.

- Overnight

Following your distillery tour + gin tastings, you’ll be led back to the Tamar Ridge Cellar Door where you can sit back & soak in the views of the Tamar River as the Cellar Door team take you through a guided, seated tasting of four of their signature wines. To finish the experience, you’ll enjoy a selection of seasonal tapas plates from Hubert & Dan.

Day 5: Tamar Valley to Stanley

Welcome to Stanley, a town with well preserved colonial buildings, elegant cafes and quality B&B cottages, all sheltering in the imposing shadow of the Nut, an immense flat topped, volcanic plug rising 150 metres straight up from the water's edge. Soak up in the glorious views of Stanley from the Nut and visit the Highfield Historic Site.

- Optional

The Nut

A hot travel tip by Luke — soak up in the glorious views of Stanley and the surrounding farmlands at the top of the Nut, the remains of an ancient volcanic plug with a large, mostly flat surface that can be circumnavigated on foot. Bring your camera and decide if you prefer to walk, or opt for the chairlift. The walking track is short, but is for those who like a challenge since it is rather steep and you will be climbing the full 152 meters to get to the summit. Alternatively, go for the chairlift option and enjoy the beautiful views in a more relaxing way. At the top, you will be greeted by 360 views of the surrounding area and can explore the plateau. Capture breathtaking views of Stanley, the neighboring farmland, Bass Strait, and Rocky Cape National Park.

Highfield Historic Site

For the history buffs and a great photo opportunity, Highfield Historic Site offers a historically accurate vision of a 'gentleman's home' and farm of the 1830s. Remarkably intact, the house sits on a hillside overlooking the lands the manager would have once controlled, with views across to Stanley, the Nut and Bass Strait beyond. Take a step back in time and visit the Highfield Historic Site and the lavish gardens.

- Overnight

Stanley Seaview Inn - Suite

Welcome to the Stanley Seaview Inn, a multi-award winning accommodation in Stanley. The hillside location provides your spacious room with magnificent views over Stanley, the Stanley Nut and the surrounding beaches. Relax in the large corner spa in your bathroom with glass walls set into a large room with high ceilings and bay windows that look out over the beautiful landscapes. Your room also has windows looking south with garden views. Enjoy a drink on one of the balconies or at happy hour in the lounge bar after a great day of sightseeing.
